  1. If this is true, why wasn’t it mentioned in Kevin Cann’s excellent book?

    • Kevin Cann and Nicholas Pegg cannot possibly know or cover everything. I spoke to both Kev and Nick about this but, as neither had seen the Super-8 or heard the tapes they would not include references to them in their wonderful books. In recent years David has become very precious about his archive – for reasons only he knows. I think the fire at one of the storage facilities upset him, he lost items that were unique at that time. I hope that answers your question Rob.

  2. Didn’t Kevin Cann sing Bette Davis Eyes?

  3. There was a guy in New York in the early 70s called Jobrandreth(I think) he was a rival for Ziggy but sadly was too hooked on drugs’n’ shit to make it too far. I think Moz has named checked Giles Brandreth a few times as an influence.

  4. I always thought Ziggy was based on a French fella and some old rocker called Vince Cable. Surely Iggy was more Ziggy than Ziggy was Iggy if that makes sense at all

  5. Grace_Manning Says:

  12. Mind if I ask a Bowie question whilst you are all snorting viagra?

Why are Bowie’s best and classic albums not yet available on 180g vinyl. I think it a bit odd in 2012 that I cannot buy every LP on 180g vinyl. The releases are sporadic and occasional. How about Ziggy Stardust, Low, Heroes, Young Americans, Lodger, Scary Monsters. The Ryko clear and EMI releases are all well and good but you cannot beat a decent 180g vinyl, they are the Hobnob of the vinyl world. Even Purple Rain is on 180g which is arguably his Sgt Pepper.

PLEASE PLEASE will someone give the fan some meaningful releases instead of pointless releases.

    thank you

    Tim

    MITT ROMNEY WINS ILLINOIS PRIMARY

Mitt Romney has won the Republican primary in Illinois, his latest win on the road to decide who will contest November’s poll against Barack Obama.

Mr Romney has won 47% of the votes, compared with 35% for Rick Santorum, with nearly all votes counted.

Sending a message to President Obama at a victory party in a suburb of Chicago, Mr Romney said: “We’ve had enough.”

Ron Paul polled 9% in Illinois and Newt Gingrich was on 8%; neither candidate campaigned extensively in the state.

“I’m running for president because I have the experience and the vision to get us out of this mess,” said Mr Romney, as his victory became evident.

Illinois sends 54 delegates to the Republican convention, and Mr Romney hopes to maintain his momentum.

However, Illinois’s delegates are not determined by the statewide vote.

Individual delegates are listed on the ballot in each of the state’s 18 congressional districts and are identified by the candidate they support.

Mr Santorum’s campaign did not successfully file for the primary ballot in parts of Illinois, meaning he automatically cedes of those 10 delegates.

However, addressing supporters on Tuesday evening, Mr Santorum said he had polled well in Illinois in areas “that conservatives and Republicans populate”.

Mr Romney won a convincing victory in Puerto Rico’s primary over the weekend, amassing 83% of the votes, but lost to Mr Santorum in recent contests in the South.

A candidate needs to accumulate 1,144 delegates to the August convention in order to secure the nomination.

Analysts say the current figures make that an almost impossible task for Mr Santorum, who has spoken openly in recent weeks about winning enough delegates to stop Mr Romney taking the crown.

Such an outcome would lead to a competitive vote at the Tampa convention, in which Mr Santorum feels he could overcome Mr Romney.

After the Puerto Rico result, Mr Romney has 521 delegates. Mr Santorum has 253 delegates, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich has 136 and Ron Paul had 50, according to an Associated Press tally.

Mr Romney’s well-financed campaign and its allies have already spent $2.5m in adverts in the state, and insists that Mr Santorum cannot hope to win the delegate race and should drop out.

Mr Santorum has vowed to continue, “competing in every state”, citing tepid support for Mr Romney even in states the former Massachusetts governor has won.

On Monday, Mr Santorum, a former Pennsylvania senator, said he would “go out and compete in every state”.

“I think it’s going to be very difficult as this goes on for anybody to get that magic number,” Mr Santorum said in an interview with CBS News, adding that chances were increasing of the nomination being decided at the convention.

    MARCO RUBIO ENDORSES MITT ROMNEY

Florida senator and conservative favourite Marco Rubio has endorsed Mitt Romney in the race for the US Republican presidential nomination.

Mr Rubio, speaking on Fox News, said Mr Romney would be an impressive president and an improvement over the “disastrous” Barack Obama.

He would not be drawn on frequent speculation that he could be named as Mr Romney’s vice-presidential pick.

On Thursday former President George H W Bush will also endorse Mr Romney.

Marco Rubio is popular among very conservative and Tea Party voters who have remained sceptical of Mr Romney throughout his candidacy.

In addition, his Hispanic roots are thought by analysts to offer a key opportunity to win the support of crucial Latino voters.

Speaking to Fox News host Sean Hannity, Mr Rubio said: “I am going to endorse Mitt Romney.

“Not only is he going to be the Republican nominee, he offers a stark contrast to this president’s record.”

He brushed off concerns that Mr Romney had struggled to dominate the lengthy primary process, and said he had no doubt the former governor of moderate Massachusetts would campaign and govern as an authentic conservative.

“This primary has been excellent because it has meant people take position on issues that we can hold them accountable to,” he added.

Mr Rubio’s endorsement is the latest high-profile Republican figure to fall in line behind Mr Romney, who is widely seen as the
    inevitable eventual nominee.

In a statement, Mr Romney said his latest backer was a living example of the American Dream:

“From humble origins, he has risen to become one of the brightest lights in our political party. He has been a leading voice in the US Senate and the country for the cause of restoring American
    greatness.”
